This week’s film is: YOR, THE HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE (1983, ITALY)
In our never-ending quest to unearth not only the best films you’ve never had a chance to see, but the absolute worst movies you’ve never heard of, the PFS proudly (ahem) presents YOR, THE HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE! A strong contender for the title of Most Entertaining “so bad it’s good” Flicks of The Last 30 Years, this laughably ridiculous Italian action epic stars the abysmally terrible weightlifter/actor REB BROWN as the title character. It awkwardly mixes sci-fi, fantasy, dinosaurs, barbarians, time-travel and yes, even UFOs (!) into an unintentionally hilarious goulash of bad acting, poorly-dubbed English dialogue, yard-sale “special effects” and cheesy ‘80s hard rock music. The plot itself is too convoluted and illogical to summarize. Instead, just imagine a Z-Grade rip-off of CONAN THE BARBARIAN, STAR WARS and THE TIME MACHINE and you’ll come close to the glorious cinematic abomination that is YOR, THE HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE. Never released on DVD and unavailable in the USA for more than 20 years, it’s a highly sought-after “lost” movie that’s something of a Holy Grail for collectors of MST3K-quality duds. Need a good, long belly laugh? We highly recommend seeing this supremely awful movie that must be highly embarrassing for all involved. Seating begins at 7:30 pm for ALL-AGES. Don’t you dare miss it!
For the past six years, The Psychotronic Film Society of Savannah has screened an unusually wide variety of rare, cult, and independent cinema from around the world on Wednesdays at the Sentient Bean. Seating begins at 7:30pm with films starting at 8pm.
