description

“Greeson couldn’t come up with a list of her band’s influences, but she does say the songs are ‘up-beat, classy rock and roll.’ Hola Halo is about as new as they come, with its debut show just last week on May 16 at Flicker. Still, these are experienced musicians. Greeson and Eskridge both continue to play in The Ones together as well, so admittedly working together wasn’t totally new. Drummer Eskridge is also becoming established as a solo artist, and he performed a set on his own the same night as the Hola Halo’s debut. There’s no record available yet, but the tunes online sound impressively polished for a demo. Driving rhythms and uplifting vocal harmonies give “That Change” a sort of Arcade Fire wide-eyed optimism. The moodier “For Me” has a metallic bite, with buzzing guitar under lilting piano and ethereal vocals. The third available track, ‘Opal,’ is a tender ballad with post-rock leanings.”
